Dr. Vwaere Diaso, a young medical doctor, lost her life in an elevator accident at the General Hospital in Odan, #Lagos state on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. The #NigerianMedicalAssociation (NMA) is asking authorities to investigate the death of one of their members who died in an elevator crash at Lagos on #Tuesday. Dr. Diaso died after the elevator she was using fell from the 9th floor of her residential building which is located in General Hospital, #Odan, #LagosIsland, where she worked.
Eyewitnesses say Diaso made use of the elevator which was allegedly faulty when the elevator fell from the 9th floor and took her life. In a statement released on Wednesday, NMA said Dr. Diaso died due to the injuries she sustained during the elevator crash. They have directed "all doctors for the three government hospitals on the island (GH Lagos, LIMH,and MSCH) to start an indefinite strike action until the investigations are completed and justice is served".
The association also wants people who are culpable in this matter to face the law.
This tragic incident highlights the failed infrastructure systems in #Nigeria and the injustice melted on Dr. Diaso. The fact that a young doctor lost her life due to a faulty elevator is unacceptable and raises questions about the safety and maintenance of public infrastructure in #Nigeria.
The NMA's call for an investigation and for those responsible to face justice shows that there is a need for accountability and transparency in addressing this issue. It is important that steps are taken to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future.
