Sniper: A Deadly Pesticide Still Claiming Lives in Nigeria

Sniper is a highly toxic pesticide that has been banned in Nigeria for many years. However, it is still being used illegally, often for suicide or murder. A 2021 report by the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 20 percent of global suicides were through pesticide self-poisoning, most of which occurred in rural agricultural areas in low- and middle-income countries.

The majority of these deaths were suicides, but there were also a number of murders. In one particularly tragic case, a man killed his wife and two children with Sniper poisoning.

According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), there has been a sharp increase in the number of deaths from Sniper poisoning in recent years. In 2021, the NDLEA recorded over a thousand deaths from Sniper poisoning, up from just over 500 deaths in 2020.

The reasons why people are using Sniper to kill themselves or others are complex and varied. Some people are driven to suicide by depression or other mental health problems. Others are motivated by financial hardship or relationship problems. And still others are simply seeking revenge.

Whatever the reason, the use of Sniper is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. The government needs to do more to crack down on the illegal sale of this deadly pesticide. The public needs to be more aware of the dangers of Sniper. People need to know that this is not a safe product, and they should not use it under any circumstances.

In addition to the statistics on deaths from Sniper poisoning, there are also a number of other statistics that paint a grim picture of the problem. For example, a study by the University of Nigeria found that 70% of people who attempt suicide with Sniper die.

This is a very high mortality rate, and it highlights the need for urgent action to address the problem. The government, the public, healthcare providers and businesses all have a role to play in preventing suicide or death by protecting people from the dangers of Sniper.

Injustice Is Real calls on the Nigerian government to take immediate action and crack down on the illegal sale of this product as it continues to flood the market. Lets all work together to raise awareness of the dangers. Together, we can make a difference and save lives.
